Moreau Catholic High School MOODLE
This Course will explore the religions of India, China and the Middle East. Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and Islam will be studied for their unique contributions to human self understanding. Students will be able to understand clearly the nature of spiritual experience and how that experience is expressed in the different religious traditions of the world. Students will become familiar with the history, basic beliefs and religious practices of each of the religions studied. Students will be able to state how each tradition answers basic questions of life and to clarify and express their own answers to these basic questions
At the successful completion of this course, students will be able to recognize prominent Christian spiritual leaders and their contributions to the Catholic faith. Students will read primary sources from mystics and scholars on spiritual practice. Finally, students will lead their peers in spiritual practices to open each other up to the spiritual experience written about by the individuals we study.
By the end of this course students will be able to identify the major beliefs, symbols, and foundations of the world's major religions. This will be accomplished through investigation of primary and secondary sources, meditative reflections, and class discussion and participation.
In this course one will study the various images of Christ and determine how he is considered the son of God based on the works in his life.
